Signs Your Vehicle Needs This Service

  • Hoses that feel soft, spongy, or mushy when squeezed rather than firm and resilient: a hose that collapses when squeezed has lost its structural integrity and is at elevated risk of failure
  • Hoses that feel hard and rigid when bent slightly near the connection fittings: hoses harden as the rubber loses its plasticizers, developing cracks at connection points
  • Visible exterior surface cracking, checking, or crazing anywhere along the hose: surface cracking indicates the rubber compound is oxidizing and the hose has exceeded its practical service life
  • Coolant staining, dried deposits, or wet areas at or near the hose connection fittings: indicates the seal between the hose and its fitting has begun to fail
  • Any hose showing swelling, bubbling, or deformation at any point along its length: localized swelling means the inner liner has separated and the hose is at immediate risk of rupturing

Cooling Hose Replacement

Full Cooling System Hose Inspection

Full Cooling System Hose Inspection

We inspect every radiator hose, heater hose, and bypass hose by visual examination and manual flex testing, assessing each for hardness, softness, surface cracking, swelling, and condition at the connection fittings.

Upper and Lower Radiator Hose Replacement

Upper and Lower Radiator Hose Replacement

The upper and lower radiator hoses are the largest and most heavily stressed hoses in the system. We replace deteriorated radiator hoses with quality units sized and shaped to match your vehicle's original equipment configuration.

Heater Hose Replacement

Heater Hose Replacement

Heater hoses carry coolant from the engine to the heater core and back. A heater hose that fails causes immediate coolant loss and eliminates cabin heat. We replace heater hoses showing signs of deterioration before they fail.

By-Pass Hose and Overflow Hose Replacement

By-Pass Hose and Overflow Hose Replacement

Smaller by-pass and overflow hoses deteriorate on the same timeline as the main cooling hoses but are often overlooked. We include them in our inspection and replace them when their condition warrants.

Clamp Inspection and Replacement

Clamp Inspection and Replacement

Hose clamps corrode, loosen, and lose their clamping force over time. We inspect all clamps during hose service and replace any that show corrosion or that cannot be properly tightened to seal the hose at its fitting.

What to Expect: Typical Service Times

  • Full cooling system hose inspection: 30 to 45 minutes
  • Individual radiator hose replacement: 30 to 60 minutes per hose
  • Heater hose replacement: 30 to 90 minutes depending on routing and access
  • Multiple hose replacement with coolant flush: 1.5 to 2.5 hours

How Our Technicians Approach Hose Inspection and Replacement

When performing a cooling system hose inspection, we begin with a visual examination of every hose in the system, noting any visible surface cracking, staining at connections, or deformation. We then flex and squeeze each hose to assess its firmness and resilience, paying particular attention to the areas near the connection fittings where hoses most commonly develop problems.

We document any hoses that are soft and near collapse, hard and near cracking, or that show staining at the connections. We present these findings with a recommendation that distinguishes between hoses that require immediate replacement and hoses that are approaching the end of their service life and should be planned for replacement.

When hose replacement is performed, we drain the system to the level required, remove the old hose and clamps, inspect the fitting surfaces for corrosion or damage, and install the new hose with new clamps tightened to the correct specification. We refill and bleed the system and perform a pressure test to confirm the new connections are sealed.
