How Our Technicians Approach Timing Belt Service
When a vehicle comes in for timing belt service, we start by verifying the replacement interval against the manufacturer’s specifications and documenting the current mileage. We review any available service history and confirm which components, belt, tensioner, idler pulleys, water pump, and seals, should be included based on the vehicle’s mileage and condition.
We remove the necessary accessories, drive belts, and covers to expose the timing system, taking care to document the timing mark alignment before anything is disturbed. We note any signs of oil contamination on the old belt, which would indicate a front seal is leaking and should be replaced as part of this service.
We remove the old belt and all components being replaced. Before installing the new belt, we verify that the crankshaft and camshaft are correctly positioned at the timing reference marks specified by the manufacturer. We install the new belt, set tension to specification, and rotate the engine through two complete crankshaft revolutions to verify that all timing marks return to their correct positions.
We reassemble the engine, replace any fluids displaced during the service, and reset maintenance reminders. If the water pump was replaced, we pressure-test the cooling system to confirm no leaks before returning the vehicle.
