How Our Technicians Approach Brake Diagnosis
When a vehicle arrives with a brake concern, we begin with a road test to experience the symptoms directly. We listen for the specific character of any noise, squeal versus grind, whether it occurs at all speeds or only during braking, and feel for pedal quality, pull, or pulsation under different braking conditions. This firsthand experience guides the inspection.
With the vehicle on the lift and all four wheels removed, we measure brake pad thickness at multiple points on each pad and document the measurements. We inspect each rotor for surface condition, minimum thickness compliance, lateral runout, and scoring. We check each caliper for free movement on the slide pins, inspect the piston boot for tearing, and look for fluid seeping past the caliper piston seal.
We inspect every brake hose by both visual examination and feel, checking for internal swelling or stiffness that can indicate internal deterioration even when the exterior appears intact. We check brake line condition at every fitting and at any point where the line passes through a bracket or body panel, where corrosion is most likely.
We then present our complete findings, every measurement, every observation, with a clear explanation of what needs attention now and what can be monitored later, before making any recommendation.
