What does the check engine light mean?
The check engine light means your vehicle’s onboard computer has detected a fault and stored a diagnostic trouble code. It could indicate something as minor as a loose gas cap or as significant as a misfiring cylinder or a failing catalytic converter. The only way to know for certain is to have the vehicle scanned. We retrieve and interpret the codes, then perform targeted testing to find the actual cause before recommending any repair.
Do you need an appointment, or do you take walk-ins?

How long does a smog check take?
Most smog checks take 15 to 30 minutes. We perform the full OBD-II and visual inspection and electronically submit your certificate to the DMV if your vehicle passes. If it does not pass, we explain exactly what failed and what it takes to fix it.
Do you work on all makes and models?
Yes. We service domestic, import, and European vehicles. Our technicians have hands-on experience across a wide range of makes and models, and our professional-grade diagnostic equipment communicates with all modern vehicle systems.
How long does a pre-purchase inspection take?
A thorough pre-purchase inspection typically takes 1 to 1.5 hours. We inspect the vehicle on a lift, perform an OBD-II scan, test the battery and charging system, evaluate brakes and suspension, check all fluids, and look for signs of prior collision damage or deferred maintenance. You leave with a written report.
What should I do if my car is overheating?
Pull over safely as soon as possible and turn off the engine. Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. Let the vehicle cool completely before checking the coolant level. How often should I change my oil?
It depends on your vehicle and the type of oil used. Most modern vehicles with full synthetic oil can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles between changes. Vehicles using conventional oil typically need changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Your owner’s manual is the authoritative source for your specific vehicle. If you are not sure, bring it in and we will check your current oil condition and let you know.
My brakes are squeaking. Do I need new pads?
A high-pitched squeal when applying the brakes is often the wear indicator, a small metal tab engineered into the pad that contacts the rotor when the pad wears to the replacement threshold. It is designed to alert you before the pads wear completely through. Bring it in for an inspection so we can measure pad thickness and confirm whether replacement is needed now or can wait.
Can you do a smog check if my check engine light is on?
An active check engine light is an automatic smog test failure in California. The light must be off and the underlying fault must be genuinely repaired, not just the code cleared, for your vehicle to pass. We diagnose emissions-related check engine lights and perform the necessary repairs to get your vehicle into compliance.
Do you offer a warranty on your repairs?
Yes. We back our work with a warranty on parts and labor. Specific warranty terms vary by service and parts used. We will provide warranty details at the time of service.

How do I know if my timing belt needs to be replaced?
Most manufacturers specify timing belt replacement between 60,000 and 105,000 miles, or at a specific age in years, whichever comes first. Your owner’s manual lists the interval for your specific vehicle. If you recently purchased a used vehicle and cannot confirm the belt’s service history, we recommend an inspection. A timing belt that breaks on an interference engine can cause severe internal damage, and replacement before failure is far less expensive than the alternative.
Do you work on hybrids and diesel vehicles?
Yes. We service hybrid vehicles including Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, and Ford Escape Hybrid, with training and equipment for high-voltage battery systems and regenerative braking. We also service diesel-powered trucks and vehicles, including fuel injectors, DPF, turbochargers, and glow plugs.
What does a free multipoint inspection include?
Our free multipoint inspection covers belts and hoses, all fluid levels and conditions, tire pressure and tread depth, brake pad thickness, all exterior lights, wiper blades, and a visual check of the suspension and exhaust system. We perform this inspection complimentary with every service visit and provide a color-coded report of what we find.
