How Our Technicians Approach a Cooling System Health Check
When a vehicle comes in for a cooling system evaluation, we begin with the coolant itself. We check the level, examine the color and clarity, and test pH and inhibitor concentration. Heavily depleted coolant tells us the system needs service regardless of other findings.
We pressure-test the system using a hand pump tester at the filler neck. We bring the system to specified operating pressure and hold it while inspecting every connection and component for any sign of leakage. We test the radiator cap separately with a cap adapter.
We monitor coolant temperature during a short warm-up cycle to observe thermostat behavior. We inspect all hoses by feel and visual examination. We check the water pump for weep hole moisture and bearing play.
We compile all findings into a clear summary and present them to the customer with specific recommendations prioritized by urgency, separating immediate needs from monitoring items, before any service is authorized.
