- Charging voltage verification: 15 minutes
How Our Technicians Approach Battery Testing
When a battery complaint arrives, we test the battery before recommending replacement using a conductance tester and a load tester. Conductance testing evaluates the internal condition of the battery plates and provides a percentage of remaining capacity. Load testing applies a calibrated electrical load equal to half the battery’s rated cold cranking amperage and measures how well the battery sustains voltage under that load.
We inspect the terminals for corrosion and resistance, clean them as needed, and measure the charging voltage with the engine running to confirm the alternator is functioning correctly. If charging voltage is within specification, we focus on the battery. If charging voltage is out of range, we address the charging system fault first.
We present the test results, including the conductance percentage and load test result, and explain what they mean for the battery’s remaining service life before making any recommendation. Our 2 ASE certified technicians know the battery specifications required for your vehicle and any battery registration procedure required after replacement.
