How Our Technicians Approach Exhaust Manifold Service
When a manifold complaint arrives, we inspect the manifold area carefully with the engine at operating temperature when possible, since thermal expansion partially seals some cracks when the engine is cold. We look for soot staining at the cylinder head joint, heat discoloration around individual exhaust ports, and any visible cracks in the manifold body.
When the leak location is not immediately obvious, we perform a smoke test to pinpoint the exact leak point before proceeding.
For manifold removal, we assess the condition of the manifold studs before attempting removal and apply penetrating oil to any studs that show corrosion. We extract any studs that break during removal and restore the cylinder head threads before installing the new manifold. We install the new gasket and hardware and torque to the manufacturer’s specification in the correct sequence.
