Full Visual Inspection from Manifold to Tailpipe

We raise the vehicle on a lift and walk the entire exhaust system, examining every component for rust-through, cracks, holes, separated joints, broken hangers, heat shield damage, and physical contact with the body or floor.

Smoke and Pressure Leak Test

When an exhaust leak is suspected but not immediately visible, we perform a smoke or pressure test to reveal leak points at flanges, flex joints, and sections where rust damage may have created small holes not obvious visually.

Exhaust Manifold and Gasket Inspection

We inspect the exhaust manifold and gasket sealing at the cylinder head, looking for cracks, heat discoloration around joints, and gasket seepage that can contribute to exhaust smells, noise, and emissions issues.

Catalytic Converter Condition Assessment

We evaluate catalytic converter condition as part of every exhaust inspection using both visual examination and oxygen sensor data analysis to assess efficiency, noting any impact damage, substrate rattling, or thermal damage.

Hanger and Support Inspection

How Our Technicians Approach an Exhaust System Inspection

When a vehicle arrives with an exhaust complaint, we raise it on a lift and walk the system from the manifold to the tailpipe. We examine every connection point, hanger, and pipe section visually, looking for obvious rust-through, separated joints, and broken hangers.

For exhaust smell complaints inside the cabin, we perform a smoke test after the visual inspection to locate any leaks that are not immediately obvious, since even small leaks at flange connections can allow enough exhaust gas to enter the cabin to create a detectable odor.

We document every finding we observe during the inspection and present the complete picture to the customer, distinguishing between components requiring immediate repair and components showing early deterioration that can be monitored, before recommending any specific repairs.
