How Our Technicians Approach Muffler Replacement
When a vehicle arrives with a muffler noise complaint, we raise it on a lift and inspect the muffler and all surrounding components before removing anything. We confirm the noise source is the muffler, identify the specific failure mode, inspect the connecting pipe and hangers for condition, and develop a complete replacement plan before starting work.
We remove the old muffler by cutting through rusted pipe connections, breaking loose clamp fasteners, or unbolting flanges as the specific connection type requires. We clean the pipe ends and inspect them for rust-through that might compromise the new muffler connection.
We install the new muffler with correctly sized clamps or a new flange gasket, hang the system at the correct height and angle using serviceable hangers, and confirm the muffler outlet is positioned correctly before torquing all fasteners. We start the engine and verify the repair before lowering the vehicle.
