Signs Your Vehicle Needs This Service

  • Vehicle pulls noticeably to one side when braking: the most common cause is a caliper on the opposite side that is not releasing fully
  • Brake pads wearing significantly faster on one wheel than the others when inspected at the same interval
  • Burning smell from one wheel area after highway driving: brake drag from a sticking caliper generates significant heat at that corner
  • One wheel noticeably hotter than the others after a normal drive when checked from a safe distance
  • Stiff brake pedal combined with a vehicle that feels like it is resisting forward motion slightly under light throttle

Brake Caliper Service & Replacement

Caliper Slide Pin Inspection & Service

Caliper Slide Pin Inspection & Service

We remove the caliper slide pins and inspect them for corrosion, damage, and freedom of movement. Serviceable pins are cleaned and lubricated with high-temperature brake grease. Seized or severely corroded pins are replaced.

Caliper Piston Inspection

Caliper Piston Inspection

We inspect the caliper piston boot for cracking or tearing that allows moisture to enter the piston bore. We assess piston retractability by attempting to manually compress the piston back into the bore.

Brake Caliper Replacement

Brake Caliper Replacement

Calipers with seized pistons, severely corroded bodies, or leaking piston seals are replaced with quality units matched to your vehicle's brake system specifications, with new slide pins, boots, and hardware.

Rotor Inspection After Caliper Service

Rotor Inspection After Caliper Service

A sticking caliper produces uneven rotor heating that can cause warping or uneven wear. We inspect and measure the rotor after caliper replacement to determine whether resurfacing or replacement is also needed.

Brake Fluid Inspection During Service

Brake Fluid Inspection During Service

Contaminated brake fluid is a common contributor to caliper piston corrosion. We inspect fluid condition during caliper replacement and recommend a flush when the fluid shows signs of moisture contamination.

What to Expect: Typical Service Times

  • Caliper slide pin inspection and service: 30 to 60 minutes per axle
  • Brake caliper replacement, one caliper: 1 to 2 hours
  • Brake caliper replacement, both calipers on one axle: 1.5 to 2.5 hours

How Our Technicians Approach Brake Caliper Service

When a sticking caliper is suspected, we inspect the caliper slide pins and piston on the affected corner. We remove the slide pins and evaluate their movement and surface condition. We attempt to compress the caliper piston and note whether it retracts freely or with significant resistance.

When slide pins are serviceable but need cleaning and lubrication, we perform that service and reassemble. When the piston is seized, we recommend caliper replacement rather than attempting to service a piston that is corroded beyond its serviceable range.

After replacement, we inspect the rotor for warping caused by the uneven heating from the previous sticking caliper. We bleed the brake circuit at the replaced caliper to remove any air introduced during the replacement.
