Signs Your Vehicle Needs This Service

  • High-pitched squealing when the brakes are applied: the wear indicator is contacting the rotor, signaling it is time to schedule replacement
  • Brake inspection measurement showing pad thickness at or below four millimeters at any wheel position
  • Visible thin pads through the wheel spokes on visual inspection
  • Longer stopping distance than the vehicle used to require; thin pads lose heat resistance and friction consistency
  • Inconsistent braking feel, with pads that grip firmly at some times and feel less effective at others

Brake Pad Replacement

Pre-Replacement Brake Inspection

Pre-Replacement Brake Inspection

Before installing new pads, we inspect rotor surface condition and measure rotor thickness to confirm whether rotors can continue in service or require resurfacing or replacement.

Brake Pad Replacement with Hardware

Brake Pad Replacement with Hardware

We replace all brake pads on the serviced axle with quality units matched to your vehicle. We replace anti-rattle clips, pad shims, and any hardware showing wear or corrosion that could cause noise or uneven pad contact.

Caliper Slide Pin Lubrication

Caliper Slide Pin Lubrication

We clean and lubricate the caliper slide pins during every brake pad replacement to ensure the caliper moves freely and the new pads wear evenly across the full rotor contact area.

Brake Fluid Level Check

Brake Fluid Level Check

Installing new pads compresses the caliper piston, raising fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. We check fluid condition and level and advise on brake fluid service if contamination is present.

Brake Noise Break-In

Brake Noise Break-In

After pad replacement, we perform a series of moderate brake applications to begin the pad bedding process, establishing the optimal contact interface between the new pads and the rotor surface.

What to Expect: Typical Service Times

  • Brake pad replacement, front axle: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Brake pad replacement, rear axle: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Brake pad replacement, both axles: 2 to 3 hours

How Our Technicians Approach Brake Pad Replacement

When a vehicle comes in for brake pad replacement, we measure the existing pad thickness at each wheel and compare to minimum specifications before removing anything. We inspect rotor surface condition and measure rotor thickness to determine whether resurfacing or replacement is needed at the same time.

We remove the old pads and inspect the caliper slide pins and caliper piston retractability before installing the new pads. We replace the anti-rattle hardware and coat the slide pins with high-temperature brake grease. We install the new pads and verify the caliper moves freely before reassembling the wheel.

After completing both wheels on the serviced axle, we check brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir and advise on fluid condition. We perform the initial brake application sequence to begin the pad bedding process and confirm the brake pedal feel is correct before returning the vehicle.
