- Brake rotor resurfacing on a brake lathe: 30 to 60 minutes per axle
- Brake rotor replacement: 45 to 90 minutes per axle
How Our Technicians Approach Brake Rotor Service
When brake pulsation or rotor wear is suspected, we measure rotor thickness at multiple points and check lateral runout before removing any rotors from the vehicle. These measurements tell us whether resurfacing is possible based on remaining material and whether replacement is required.
For rotors that qualify for resurfacing, we machine the rotor on an on-car brake lathe that corrects both rotor surface variation and any hub-related runout simultaneously, ensuring the machined surface is running perfectly true when complete.
For rotors that require replacement, we remove the old rotor and inspect the hub surface for corrosion and rust that would prevent the new rotor from seating flat. We clean the hub surface, install the new rotor, and confirm it is seated correctly before reassembling the brake caliper.
