What to Expect: Typical Service Times
- Blower motor and resistor diagnosis: 30 to 60 minutes
- Blower motor resistor replacement: 30 to 60 minutes on most vehicles
- Blower motor replacement: 1 to 2 hours depending on vehicle and access requirements
How Our Technicians Approach Blower Motor Diagnosis
When a vehicle arrives with an airflow complaint, we begin by testing the blower motor at each fan speed position. We use a test light or voltmeter at the motor connector to verify the motor is receiving correct voltage and ground. If voltage is present but the motor does not run, the motor has failed. If voltage is absent, the fault is in the supply circuit or resistor.
For no-high-speed-only complaints, we test the resistor module and inspect the relay. For complete no-airflow complaints, we verify power and ground at the motor before recommending replacement.
When replacement is confirmed, we remove the glove box or lower dashboard panel required to access the motor, clean any debris from the blower housing, and install the new motor or resistor. We verify correct operation at all fan speeds after installation before reassembling the dashboard trim.
A blower motor resistor replacement costs significantly less than a blower motor replacement. Our 2 ASE certified technicians confirm which component is responsible before recommending any parts. We explain what the diagnosis found and what the repair involves before any work begins.
