What to Expect: Typical Service Times
- Coolant drain and flush: 30 to 45 minutes
- Fresh coolant fill and system bleed with heater verification: 45 to 60 minutes
- Total coolant flush and fill service: 1 to 1.5 hours
How Our Technicians Approach a Coolant Flush for Heater Improvement
When a heater complaint coincides with evidence of degraded or low coolant, we first check for any active leaks and identify their source before performing the flush. Adding fresh coolant to a leaking system does not resolve the heater complaint if the system will be low again within weeks.
We drain the complete system and flush to remove contamination. We refill with the correct coolant type and concentrate on the bleed procedure specific to the vehicle’s cooling system. Vehicles with air traps in the heater core circuit require specific bleed steps that vary by make and model, and following these steps correctly is essential for the heater to perform correctly after the flush.
We run the engine to full operating temperature and confirm heater output before returning the vehicle.
The quality of coolant circulating through your heater core directly affects your heater’s performance. Coolant that has exceeded its service life becomes acidic and loses heat transfer efficiency. Scale and deposit buildup from degraded coolant can coat the inside of the heater core, reducing its ability to transfer heat into the cabin air. If a coolant flush alone is unlikely to resolve a heater complaint because the heater core itself is restricted, our 2 ASE certified technicians will tell you that after the flow test rather than recommending a flush that will not solve the problem.
