Full OBD-II Monitor Status Review

We connect to your vehicle's OBD-II system and retrieve the status of every readiness monitor for your specific vehicle. Different vehicles have different sets of required monitors, and we report the status of each one specifically rather than providing a generic assessment.

Pending Code Check

We check for any pending codes detected but not yet confirmed through a second drive cycle. A pending code that becomes a stored code before or during the smog test will activate the check engine light and produce a smog failure. Identifying pending codes before the test gives you the opportunity to address them first.

Permanent Code Status

We check for permanent codes that cannot be cleared by scan tools or battery disconnection. Permanent codes indicate previously detected faults that have not been confirmed as resolved through a completed drive cycle.

Drive Cycle Guidance

When monitors are incomplete, we explain the specific driving conditions required to complete each incomplete monitor for your vehicle. Different monitors require different conditions, including specific temperature ranges, speed sequences, and idle periods.

Pre-Smog Readiness Report

We provide a written summary of monitor completion status, any pending codes identified, and recommendations for what is needed before the smog inspection.

How Our Technicians Approach an Emissions Readiness Check

When a vehicle comes in for a pre-smog readiness check, we connect our scan tool and retrieve the complete monitor status table for that specific vehicle. We note which monitors are complete and which are showing incomplete or not supported.

We check simultaneously for any pending codes that might become a problem before or during the smog test. A pending code combined with incomplete monitors requires both the pending code to be addressed and the monitors to complete before the vehicle will pass.

We explain the complete status clearly, identify specifically which monitors are incomplete if any, and provide the driving conditions required to complete each one based on the manufacturer’s drive cycle specifications.
